Cybercrime is a global scourge affecting all nations, including Ivory Coast. In 2023, the country witnessed a 20% increase in cyberattacks, with significant economic and social consequences.

To combat this growing threat, the Ivorian government adopted a National Cybersecurity Strategy (2021-2025) in 2021. Among its aims is the crucial task of strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity workforce.

The ESATIC Cybersecurity Innovation Center

Part of this strategy’s implementation led to the opening of the Cybersecurity Innovation Center (CIC) within the École Supérieure Africaine des Technologies de l’Information et de la Communication (ESATIC) in Abidjan. Launched on April 13, 2023, the CIC’s mission is to train cybersecurity experts and develop innovative solutions to fight cybercrime.

ESATIC Cybersecurity Innovation Center

The center boasts research and training labs equipped with cutting-edge technology. It offers both university-level and short-term training programs, along with dedicated research and development initiatives.

The Center’s Objectives

The CIC’s core objectives are:

  • To train cybersecurity experts who can address the needs of Ivorian businesses and institutions.
  • To develop innovative solutions to combat cybercrime.
  • To promote a culture of cybersecurity within Ivory Coast.

Conclusion

The establishment of the ESATIC Cybersecurity Innovation Center marks a significant step in Ivory Coast’s fight against cybercrime. This center will contribute to training the experts the country needs to protect itself from cyberattacks.

Furthermore, the CIC stands as a symbol of the Ivorian government’s commitment to enhancing the nation’s cybersecurity landscape.
