The Ministry of Territorial Administration, Decentralization, and Security, through the General Directorate of Internal Security (DGSI) in collaboration with the Central Brigade for Combating Cybercrime (BCLCC), organized a training session on digital forensic investigation for Officers and Agents of the Judicial Police of the National Police and Gendarmerie.

The closing ceremony of this training was presided over by the Director-General of Internal Security, Police Inspector General Sié Tiéfi DABIRÉ, on Friday, December 1, 2023.

Over five (05) days, the first responders in judicial investigation, including Officers and Agents of the Judicial Police from the four (04) regional capitals (Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Gaoua, and Koudougou), familiarized themselves with methods of investigation, collection, and processing of digital evidence.

According to Police Inspector General Sié Tiéfi DABIRÉ, the Director-General of Internal Security, this initiative began last year and continues with new objectives to meet the current imperatives. In his view, these training sessions mark a crucial step in the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to enhance the capabilities of Judicial Police Officers (OPJ) and Judicial Police Agents (APJ) to address the increasingly complex and evolving challenges of cybercrime they face.

“From now on, the analysis of digital data from responses to judicial requisitions addressed to mobile operators using digital investigation tools, as well as the assistance of individuals who are victims of personal data breaches, holds no secrets for you. Also, the use of open-source investigation tools and basic investigation on a computer and a phone are now within your reach. I can confidently say that you now have the necessary skills to handle certain cybercrime cases,” he told the participants.

Commander of the Central Brigade for Combating Cybercrime, Police Commissioner Bantida Samire YONI, expressed gratitude to the General Directorate of Internal Security for organizing these training sessions. He urged the beneficiaries to continue strengthening their abilities and skills to meet the challenges of the digital age.

Conclusion:

During the closing ceremony, participants raised concerns with the Director-General of Internal Security, including the acquisition of essential computer equipment for their digital investigation work and extending the training to all OPJs and APJs in other regions of Burkina Faso. The authorities present assured that these concerns were duly noted and promised to address them appropriately. Cybersecurity Services.
